2003 Community Picnic

Holiday Point Banner

This is a great backlit view of the banner designed by Steve Diamond and quilted by Tobi Andrews, an artistic and definitely fitting symbol of our community. Billed as one of the largest picnics in years, Everyone clearly demonstrated that indeed 'Every Day is like a Holiday, When You Live on Holiday Point.'

Ya got ta pay before ya can play!

One of the traditions of the picnic is that June is the official welcoming committee and donation collector. Welcome back for another great picnic on a beautiful day.

The food makes the party!

The picnic started off with a great meal, catered and initially prepared by Joe and Dhanni. Once again they outdid themselves, setting up the grills and main food items just hours before leaving on a Carribean cruise.

The ladies of Holiday Point

Dhanni, Missy, Marie and Miriam look like they're guarding the hamburger rolls, or maybe they're just finishing setting up the condiments table, or maybe they just want to be first in line!

Lunch is served!

Al and Ed took over the chores to allow Joe and Dhanni a chance to enjoy the party. A very large number of additional dishes including salads, desserts, etc. were provided on a pot luck basis by the many attendees.

Good food, good fun, what more could you ask for?

Ed serves up a piping hot burger to Miriam while Bernie stands on line for a tasty hot dog.

MMMM MMMM good!

Looks like Kimberly is really enjoying that burger!

Bill and Bill at the buffet table

Bill looks on in amazement as Bill pours ketchup onto his hamburger. Of course he's thinking, 'wonder if I can bump his elbow and get him to spill ketchup all over his nice clothes'.

Looks like they found something good to eat!

Ronnie and two of her friends caught with full plates and big smiles.

. . . and of course there was beer . . .

Tom tests the results of his efforts as supplier of the beer and ice. First quarter keg was gone in less than 2 hours. We are a thirsty bunch aren't we!

the Quinn Family - a picnic tradition

The Quinn family has been attending Holiday Point picnics ever since there were Holiday Point Picnics. Here are Doug, Paul, Marcy, Bernie and Courtney with smiles all around

. . . and one more Quinn to round out the bunch

Here's Holly is sitting with Charlotte, enjoying a hot dog, chips and a cookie. Sounds like health food to me!

Another long time attendee

Susie has been coming to the picnic since she was a little girl, and she's continuing the tradition with her daughters Kelly and Julia as well.

Doris and George - the Holiday Point historians

Doris and George have also been coming to the Holiday Point picnic for a very long time. Additionally, Doris has been keeping a photographic record over the years which will be published on the website soon. They're always here with a welcome smile and some great stories of picnics past.

Remember when they made kids stand in order of height. . .

Bill, Tobi, Bruce and Missy with big smiles all around. Bill is still plotting to bump and elbow and spill that drink all over Tobi's nice clothers this time!

Julia and Matt

Cousins Julia and Matt finishing up their lunch. Looks like Julia is preparing to steal Matt's drink!

Let the games begin . . .

Traditional game master, Steve donned his whistle and megaphone to begin the Holiday Point picnic olympics. What else would you do on a totally full stomach, except begin running and jumping and rolling around in the grass!

Best participation in years. . .

We had lots of kids to join in on the games this year. They definitely made them more exciting for the participants and onlookers as well.

Just a day at the races

Kelly is full of determination as she runs the slolom course. She can't wait to win a prize!

Is this a fair match-up?

Mom versus daughter. Looks like Ashley just might be winning!

. . . and Julia flies across the finish line

Julia looks like she's taking to flight as she does her best to keep up with Courtney crossing the finish line.

. . . and the judges observe the competition

Nicholas donning his classy wet suit looks on at the runners and thinks, 'I'd rather be in the water, it's way too hot for this running stuff!.'

Who ever invented wheelbarrow racing anyway?

And they're off. Kara and her cousin visiting from Russia showing great form in this challenging event.

Look at Holly go!

Holly also shows good form as she charges into the second leg of the race.

. . . and Kelly shows determination again

Kelly is totally focused on reaching the finish line. Can't tell whose having more fun daughter or father!

Doug and Julia at the starting line

Julia looks pretty good here at the starting line. Of course Doug needed a chiropractor by the end of the race.

What's a picnic without a pie eating contest?

Looks like Joseph got more pie filling on his face than in his mouth. The smile indicates that he doesn't care though - the messier the better.

Demonstration of professional pie eating form

Loren demonstrates her championship pie eating form. She trains fifty-one weeks a year just for this event.

. . . and the winner is . . .

Yesiree - Loren takes the prize and poses with her winning (if pie covered) smile!

and then . . .

What are these people looking at?

and then . . .

So what ARE these people looking at?

. . . there's the egg toss!

Ohhhh, they're appreciating the great catch that Amy has just made after one of Paul's slightly overthrown eggs!

. . . and the judges look on . .

Donning their Holiday Point T-shirts which are at least 20 years old, Doris, George, June, Bill and Chris (in the background) enjoy a few minutes of conversation while looking on at the proceedings

Egg tossing is a tough competition

Paul reaches high for this toss from Amy, or was he just practicing his ballet moves?

Controversy in the egg toss!

Right after having his egg break all over the front of his shorts, Ed challenged Paul to prove that his egg wasn't made of wood. Can't understand why? It only hit the ground 10 or 15 times before it finally broke!

and the winners were . . .

Doug and Marcy pose for a victory picture after a spectacular competition. Interestingly enough, second place was taken by 9 year old Cara and her cousin in an incredible upset.

Holiday Point Royalty

June and Bill pose beneath the Holiday Point banner (used in the bicentennial parade). Did you know that Bill had those wrinkles surgically implanted just so he could get people to do stuff for him?

. . . and at the other end of the spectrum . . .

One of Holiday Point's youngest members, Cameron, also posed for a quick photo.

Do da limbo maan!

The latest generation of beach bathing beauties stand in line waiting for their chance to compete in the limbo contest.

How low can you go . .

Not exactly the traditional limbo style, but then again they made it under the bar and isn't that the objective of the game?

How looooowwww can you go?

Michael shows us all how it's done. Very cool maan!

Groovin' on a sunny afternoon. . .

Scotty and his guest look like they're having a pretty good time just relaxing and enjoying the goings on.

Who has a problem with they're eye?

Tom and Natalie posing after she poked his eye out for picking on her about the pace of her recovery from eye surgery. Guess she wanted him to see what it feels like. Obviously, the smiles indicate that we're just kidding.

What's Holiday Point without the water?

Courtney, Julia, Holly and Kelly enjoy a refreshing dip in the lake after the heat of the competitions.

Tom provides the rides

Tom and Julia taking a ride on the SeaDoo. Two minutes after this shot was taken Julia tossed Tom off in a spectacular 360 spin at full throttle!

Even on the hottest days . .

Even on the hottest days, a nice warm towel and a hug are the best ways to finish off a cool swim.

Hot fun in the summertime. . .

Ashley and Gabrielle sippin' on some apple juice and soakin' in some rays.

Who needs cell phones . . .

Julia carries on an important conference call with Ro and Al via her portable sea shell phone, one of the many treasures that were found buried in the sand that day.

A welcome face from the past

Barbara (who used to live in what is now Taylor's house) still returns to the picnic to share fond memories and photographs with old friends.

Hey you . . . in the Panama hat

Ed poses for a quick picture with Mike and Julie. Mike confessed that the day was almost comfortably warm! After a less than ideal spring, our parties have seemed blessed with good weather.

Last but definitely not least . . .

A quiet moment as the day wore on. It was a great picnic! Thank-you all for attending and for being such great neighbors!
